The Daily Program‘s Trevor Noah wants to break down the obstacles that restrict mental healthcare access in the black neighborhood.
In his latest “If You Don’t Know, Now You Know” segment, he strolled through the significant barriers that keep members of the black neighborhood from receiving vital psychological health services.
For one, there are the racial inequalities in diagnosis.
” One of the factors many black individuals don’t get the proper treatment is misdiagnosis,” Noah said. “What is viewed as anxiety in white people can be seen as ‘disruptive behavior’ in black people.”
Making matters worse, there’s a plain shortage of black therapists. This makes it incredibly tough for black individuals to discover a black therapist, Noah states.
Helpfully, the section also concludes with a link to find a mental health professional in your area.
