One of India’s women hockey team biggest achievements came when Indian girls created history by winning country’s first ever bronze medal in the junior women hockey World Cup at 2013.
18-year-old Rani Rampal’s lone goal in finals and two in penalty against England led India to a memorable victory.
As India set to play against host nation England later today on hockey world cup opening match, there is an encouraging similarity. That is nine of sixteen-member squad belongs to historical 2013 junior world cup bronze winning team.
Those players are:
Rani Rampal, vice captain of 2013 junior hockey world cup is now leading India’s team to 2018 Hockey world cup.
Deep Grace Ekka
The resemblance is somewhat tempting but achieving the same feat is posing to be a tougher than ever – considering the recent performances. but the Indian even should make it into the semifinal without problems, beating USA and Ireland would not be much of an issue except England, who are one of the favourites.
If they finish ahead of England and top Pool B, then easier draw await them –Â China or South Korea in the round of 16. If they finish second behind the hosts nation, they are likely to face Netherlands. but after that, hurdle will be high but If they manage to overcome that hurdle, though, they could win the tournament or at least could able to replicate the similar feat of 2013.
