Former NFL head coach Color Jackson will lead the drills throughout quarterback Colin Kaepernick‘s arranged workout in Atlanta on Saturday, and previous NFL head coach Joe Philbin will be in participation to help, the league announced Thursday.
The NFL stated 11 teams have dedicated to go to: the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New York City Giants, New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Redskins The league stated it anticipated extra teams to dedicate.
Jackson informed ESPN’s Josina Anderson that he “just learnt about it” on Thursday.
” The NFL asked me to do it. I’m thrilled about doing it for Colin and the league. As far as I know right now, Colin is still going to,” he said.
The league repeated that it would send video of the exercise and an interview with Kaepernick to all 32 groups.
Kaepernick, 32, has run out football because 2016, the year he began opposing cops brutality and racial injustice by kneeling during the pregame national anthem.
The NFL will not offer Kaepernick’s representatives with a list of executives and coaches who will participate in the workout, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.
Sources earlier Wednesday told ESPN that the NFL had actually consented to offer the Kaepernick camp a list of participants. Nevertheless, an NFL source later told ESPN that the league never ever guaranteed to offer that list.
The NFL notified its clubs Tuesday that the personal exercise would be held for Kaepernick on Saturday in Atlanta. Sources formerly informed ESPN that the league office stated none of the 32 teams had actually been warned of the workout prior to Tuesday’s memo was sent out. When Kaepernick’s representatives asked whether a group or teams had requested for the exercise, the NFL league office stated, “We can’t tell you that,” the reps described.
Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid, who was the first player to sign up with Kaepernick in taking a knee throughout the anthem while both were with the San Francisco 49 ers, stated Wednesday that “it feels disingenuous” that the NFL would schedule a workout for the quarterback on Saturday.
” I’ll believe it when I see it,” Reid stated Wednesday. “At this point, it seems like a PR stunt.”
NFL exercises usually take location on Tuesdays because head coaches and basic supervisors can attend more easily. On Saturday, practically half of the NFL teams will be traveling to video games, and the majority of the rest of the coaches and players will be heading to their group hotels to prepare for games the next day.
” I actually hope it’s a serious shot for him to return in the league,” Jenkins said. “I think he deserves to be in the league. For the last 3 years, he has unjustly not worked. However based on all of the things that have led us to this point, it leaves me a little skeptical of the inspirations behind it. But I believe like any person, we’re simply all waiting to see.”
