Nitu puts in a flawless performance; retains gold at the World Youth Boxing Championships

Nitu continued her dominance as she successfully defends her World Youth Boxing Championships crown from Guwahati 2017 with a flawless gutsy and gritty display in the final 48kg boxing event in Budapest.

Defending champion Nitu (48kg) claimed her second successive gold at the World Youth Boxing Championships with a gritty performance in the final.

The Haryana-boxer, who is also an Asian champion, defeated Thailand’s Nillada Meekoon in a split decision. She had won her previous World Championships gold last year in Guwahati.

Nitu progressed from the earlier througout easy routine. As the defending champion opened her account with a resounding 4-0  Germany’s Maxi Klotzer.

In the semis,  Kazakhstan’s Anel Kudaibergen was dispatched with the Indian then facing a final versus Thailand’s Nillada Meekoon.

Against a dangerous opponent in Nillada , Nitu kept her distance and remained patient before openings came in the second round of the fight, where the 18 year-old lived up to her reputation with a punch to the Thailand’s head guard opening up a clear 8 point advantage, as she defended her way to second-successive World Youth Boxing Championships final.

Also in the finals are Manisha (64kg), Anamika (51kg) and Sakshi (57kg) but they will be in action tomorrow. It was a slugfest that Nitu had to pull through against Meekoon, who made the bout slightly messy with her defensive tactics. The Indian, however, kept her composure and came up with straight and clean blows to fetch a favourable verdict.
