Olympian Tintu Luka pulls out of Asian Games due to illness

India’s women’s team 4x400m relay contender lost one of their key member as Tintu Luka pulled out of the race. Tintu, one of India’s highest-rated young quarter quarter-miler, was suffering with illness and pulled out within days before the start of the quadrennial Asian Games in Indonesia.

The national record-holder Tintu had been unwell after last year’s Asian Championship in Bhubaneswar and just when she appeared to be recovering,  her heel started troubling her a little more than a month ago.

“Tintu is running okay with shoes, but when she wears spikes she is unable to stretch fully and run, will take probably 10 more days for her to recover. She will not be attending the trials in Thiruvananthapuram and she will not be going to Jakarta,” her coach P.T. Usha said as per The Hindu.

Her loss is a blow to India’s hopes of retaining the Gold medal in Jakarta. In the previous edition Tinti played a crucial role where they set a new Asian Games record of 3:29.02.
