Second Edition of India Learn Golf Week Attracts Record 51 Clubs from Across India
Industry initiative supported by India’s Star Golfers on track to initiate 100,000 new Golfers by 2022
New Delhi, September XXXX, 2018: The second edition of the India Learn Golf Week (ILGW) is all set to roll from September 24-30, 2018, attracting participation from a record 51 Golf clubs across 26 Indian cities and towns. A one of its kind initiative mooted by the Golf Industry Association (GIA) with the objective of introducing 100,000 new golfers into the game by 2022. The ILGW has also rallied support from the entire golfing fraternity including star professional players such as Gaganjeet Bhullar and Rahil Gangjee and apex bodies of the sport led by the Indian Golf Union (IGU), Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI), National Golf Association of India (NGAI), Golf Course Superintendents and Managers Association of India (GCS&MAI), as well as the Professional Golf Association (PGA) of America.
The inaugural edition of ILGW in 2017 had seen 27 clubs from 15 cities initiate 7000 new individuals to the game. This year with the increased reach, more than 15000 new golfers are set to get their first lessons in the game, keeping ILGW on track to achieve the figure of 100,000 in the next four years. Already hundreds of registrations have started pouring in across the 51 clubs.
Given the trend, the ILGW is sure to unearth India’s future golf champions. By its widening base, new and young talent are bound to emerge from most unexpected places such as has been seen at the recent Asian Games where small towns and rural areas have thrown up medalists. The ILGW will be a great platform to discover such new young talent, who would have otherwise never tried their hand at the game. Simply put, the ILGW is the largest such initiative to infuse new talent into the game of golf, at one go.
The ILGW also aims to generate more than 1,500 crore revenue for the Golf industry in the same time period.
