India’s men’s hockey team defeated Pakistan 2-1 in the bronze medal playoff at the 18th Asian Games.Â It was a deserved win for India, who bounced back from the disappointment of their semifinal defeat against Malaysia in the same stadium onÂ on Saturday.
Both side’s came into this game on the back of disappointing semi-final losses in midweek and it was going to come down to who wanted it more and it turned out the India on this occasion.
The last-edition gold medal winners were too strong and slick, with Rupinderpal Singh and Akashdeep Singh dominating the game.Â TheÂ Indians took control of the game as early as the third minute as Akashdeep Singh gave them the lead after a fantastic passing move. They didn’t make sure of the win though until the 50th minute when Harmanpreet ended the game as a contest to seal the win for India.

Pakistan, though pulled one back in the 52nd minuteÂ have still had a positive tournament but at the end of the day they will feel that this was a massive chance for them which they didn’t take.
That goal really knocked the stuffing out of the Pakistan players as the game played out to the end without much more action in either box as India won the game to confirm a third-place finish at this yearsÂ Asian Games.
