Women’s World Boxing Championships: Mary Kom strolls past Kessenayeva to record 6th quarterfinal appearance

MaryKom was simply clinical during her first-round win over Aigerim Kessenayeva of Kazakhstan at AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi, looking in top form.

Five-time world champion Mary Kom (48 kg) got off to a fantastic start after easily winning her opening-round match at the Women’s World Boxing Championships against a tricky Aigerim Kessenayeva to reach the quarterfinals. Looking somewhere near flawless, Mary Kom was clinical throughout the whole match and strolled to the comfortable 5-0 win in just little time.

Expectedly, it was Kom who came through this match as her offensive style of boxing was too much for Kessenayeva which made her lose her rhythm along the way.

With this latest win, Kom continued her good run against Kassenayeva as earlier, she had comprehensively beaten the Kazakh boxer in the final of the Silesian Open in Poland.

Kom, who is gunning for her sixth world championship, will now take on her Chinese counterpart Yu Wu in the last eight of the competition on Tuesday.
