Indian Hockey Colts were left heartbroken at Buenos Aires on Sunday, as both U-18 Men’s and Women’s team fell at the final hurdle to Malaysia and Argentina respectively and thwarted in their bid to be the first-ever in the Youth Olympics #Hockey5 champions
The men’s team, who breezed through Saturday’ group stage with three wins out of three, were defeated 4-2 by Malaysia in the final.
With clear cut chances few and far between, it looked like it would take something special to open the scoring, and that was certainly what Vivek Sagar provided inside 5 minutes scoring a brace, the slender advantage that was extended only lasted for 20 seconds before Firadus, brace from Akhimullah and Ishak Arif ended India’s Youth Olympics’ dreams.
The Women’s team on the other hand, did give India a first minute lead via Mumtaz, but that was cancelled out by Gianella just four minutes later before Sofia double the lead in the ninth minute. The Young Eves never really recovered from that point on, the hosts team Brisa netting a added third in the 13th minute to secure the win.
